Washington is a town in the City of Sunderland, in Tyne and Wear, England, and part of historic County Durham. Washington is located geographically at an equal distance from the centres of Newcastle, Durham and Sunderland, hence it has close ties to all three cities.

Washington was designated a new town in 1964; it expanded dramatically, by the creation of new villages and the absorption of areas of Chester-le-Street, to house overspill population from surrounding cities.

At the 2011 census, its urban subdivision (which contains the neighboring settlement of New Herrington) had a population of 67,085.

Name

Early references appear around 1096 in Old English as Wasindone. The etymological origin is disputed and there are several proposed theories for how the name "Washington" came about. Early interpretations included Wasindone (people of the hill by the stream, 1096), or Wassyngtona (settlement of Wassa's people, 1183).

Washington (footballer)

Washington Stecanela Cerqueira, or simply Washington (born April 1, 1975 in Brasília), is a retired association footballer who played striker.

Career

In Turkish league 2002–2003 season he scored 10 goals in 17 games and then he was released by Fenerbahçe because of his health problems.

Washington was submitted to a coronary catheterization. Once recovered, physicians told him that playing football would not represent a risk to his condition. Then he signed with Atlético Paranaense where he was 2004 Série A top-scorer with 34 goals and broke the league's record. For his recovery, he was dubbed Coração Valente, the title of the movie Braveheart in Brazil.

In 2005 he moved to Japan to play for Tokyo Verdy in the J. League Division 1. He had a successful season there with 22 goals in 33 games but could not save his club from relegation. In 2006 he transferred to Urawa Red Diamonds and helped the Reds win their first ever J. League Division 1 title, becoming the top scorer in the league with 26 goals in 26 games. In 2007, he became 2007 FIFA Club World Cup top scorer and his team finished in third place.

Washington Railroad Station

Washington Railroad Station, was located in Washington, New Jersey. The station was built in 1900 and added to the National Register of Historic Places on July 3, 1979. The station was demolished in 1982.

Myeloblast

The myeloblast is a unipotent stem cell, which will differentiate into one of the effectors of the granulocyte series. The stimulation by G-CSF and other cytokines triggers maturation, differentiation, proliferation and cell survival. It is found in the bone marrow.

Origin

These cells descend from the primitive reticulum cells, which are found in the stroma of the marrow. There is also an intermediate phase between the myeloblast and these primitive reticulum cell, namely the hemocytoblast. At this time several developing blood cell lines are available, like erythropoiesis and thrombopoiesis. The granulopoiesis is regulated by humoral agents, like colony-stimulating factor (CSF) and interleukin 3.

Location in the body

The myeloblasts reside extravascularly in the marrow. The hematopoiesis takes place in the extravascular cavities between the sinuses of the marrow. The wall of the sinuses is composed of two different types of cells, the endothelial cells and the adventitial reticular cells. The hemopoietic cells are aligned in cords or wedges between these sinuses, the myeloblasts and other granular progenitors are concentrated in the subcortical regions of these hemopoietic cords.

Blast (Russian band)

Blast is a Moscow-based band formed in the late 1990s by Georgian singer/songwriter Nash Tavkhelidze.

He had previously spent a number of years in the US playing in different bands. The band was composed of Nash, Russian Alexandre "Khlap" Artchevski and Bulgarians Vlado Kostov and Valio Blagoev. At that time the Moscow club scene was booming and BLAST very quickly became the most popular indie band in the city. In 1998 band was picked up by the indie label "Apollo G Records" (Manchester, UK). They released their first album "Pigs Can Fly" and followed this with a UK club tour in 2000. A few years later the band signed to Ghost Records UK and hit the studio recording the album F**K the industry with producer Graham Pilgrim. Ghost Records Musical Director Frank Perri and A&R manager Phillipe Palmer drew much attention to the Russian Rock Rebels and a place within the British music scene was forged. Regular tours of the UK and Europe have continued since that time.

Blast (magazine)

Blast was the short-lived literary magazine of the Vorticist movement in Britain. Two editions were published: the first on 2 July 1914 (dated 20 June 1914, but publication was delayed) and published with a bright pink cover, referred to by Ezra Pound as the "great MAGENTA cover'd opusculus"; and the second a year later on 15 July 1915. Both editions were written primarily by Wyndham Lewis. The magazine is emblematic of the modern art movement in England, and recognised as a seminal text of pre-war 20th-century modernism. The magazine originally cost 2/6.

Background

When the Italian futurist Filippo Tommaso Marinetti visited London in 1910, as part of a series of well-publicised lectures aimed at galvanizing support across Europe for the new Italian avant-garde, his presentation at the Lyceum Club, in which he addressed his audience as "victims of .... traditionalism and its medieval trappings," electrified the assembled avant-garde. Within two years, an exhibition of futurist art at the Sackville Gallery, London, brought futurism squarely into the popular imagination, and the press began to use the term to refer to any forward-looking trends in modern art.
